Forage cap

This is one of my Union forage caps that I recently made and sold. It has a black polished-cotton lining and a makers' label inside. It is a little taller and falls forward, making it a little more like Union forage caps from the earlier part of the war.

  1. By the way, in my opinion there was no such thing as a "bummers" cap. I have heard all the explanations as to why they were the caps that Sherman's bummers wore and so on but never have I been able to find any primary source documentation referring to a piece of Union headgear as a "bummers cap". If you have that documentation I'd love to see it.
